Government speeds up fingerprint collection at ration shops in Coimbatore

The scheme was paused across Tamilnadu after the biometric machines faced multiple technical glitches.

Coimbatore:

Indian Central Government has established the One Nation - One Card Scheme. It has been launched in Tamilnadu too. As a part of this scheme, fingerprints of ration card holders are being collected using biometric machines.

Unfortunately the scheme delayed in delivering ration products to people as the biometric machines were constantly facing technology glitches like connectivity and server issues. This led to the temporary pause of this scheme across the states.

Later the technology glitches were repaired and the server speed across ration shops in Tamil Nadu increased.

Mock trials of the schemes took place at a few ration shops in the Taluks across Coimbatore. Post the success of the trail run, the scheme has been reinstated across 1,420 ration shops in Coimbatore. The government has now speeded up the process of collecting fingerprints from ration card holders.

A District Distribution Department Officials said that " With the continuous issues in servers and connectivity, collection of data from an individual took at least 30 minutes. The tech issues were fixed and we recently had a trial run across the district. During the trial run we were able to give the ration products under 1 minute. With this success we have sent biometrics across Coimbatore to collect the fingerprints of ration card holders. We are expecting the works to be completed by the end of this month." He said.
