Operation Smile project implemented successfully: 31 children rescued


Coimbatore: Operation Smile project implemented successfully and 31 children were rescued.

In Coimbatore, Operation Smile, a project to rescue missing children, begging boys and child laborers, was launched on February 1. The district's Child Protection Department, Childline, Labor Welfare Department, and police jointly conducted inspections throughout the district. Of these, 31 minor children were rescued.

District Child Protection Officer Sundar said, “31 children between the ages of 14 and 18 have been rescued. They were working at hotels, mechanic shops, shops and begging at bus and train stations. Of these, 28 are from Tamil Nadu and 3 are from other states. The rescued were handed over to the parents, through the Child Welfare Committee. Children without parents are taken care of in homes."

He added that if the public sees such child labourers and those who beg with children on the street, they can immediately report it to the Child Helpline. Officials said that the Operation Smile project is being successfully implemented and it bring light to children bound under child labour.
