Pump set price increase by 10%: Overall sales decline by 20%

Old pump repair works done more than purchase of new pump sets say, Industrialists

Coimbatore: The initiative taken by pump set manufacturers in Coimbatore has given back a negative impact since the overall sales has been reduced by 20%.

Industrial City Coimbatore is well known for various types of pump set manufacturing which are used in Domestic and Agriculture sector.

Tamil nadu (Coimbatore) and Gujarat (Rajkot and Ahmedabad) manufacture pump sets in India. The pump sets made in Coimbatore cater to the 50% of the overall needs across the nation.

Castings play a vital role in pump set manufacturing. Continuing price increase of raw materials has made a big impact in casting price and as a result of which at present the pump set industry has started to feel the heat.

Unable to bear the raw materials price hike, pump set manufacturers in Coimbatore have increased the price by 10%. Whereas in return the overall sales has got a big impact. Industrialists have said that overall pump set sales has been reduced by 20%.

The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SIEMA) President, KV Karthik said that,"Continuing price hike of raw materials has made a big impact in the pump set industry. With no option left, Manufacturers were forced to increase the price of pump sets by 10%.

In return now the overall sales has been reduced by 20%. Raw materials price increase and good monsoon witnessed this year has made the sales drop.

Pump sets alone cannot be used directly, the total pump system includes cable, pipe, pump sets, accessories etc. For example previously Rs 1.10 lakh rupees was needed for installing pump sets. Whereas at present the same cost has been increased to Rs 1.80 lakhs. This is the reason behind users thinking twice before purchasing a new pump set.

So many have started to repair and reuse their old pump sets rather than replacing them with the new ones. The Central Government must take action in reducing the price of raw materials and ensure that the price decrease benefits the manufacturers of all sectors."He said.
