Over 200 DMK members arrested for protesting to expedite underground sewerage project.
Coimbatore: More than 200 DMK members have been arrested for besieging a municipal office in Pollachi demanding a speedy completion of an underground sewerage project. Sewerage project was started in 2016 in 36 wards of Pollachi municipality. The work, which is being carried out at a cost of Rs 170 crore, has not been completed for more than four years. Accidents are increasing day by day as the roads in the city are dug and filled with potholes. Pollachi city DMK chief Varadarajan today staged a sit-in protest against the siege of the municipal office, condemning the delay in the sewerage project and urged the municipal administration to repeal unnecessary taxes, including the garbage tax.
DMK workers besieged the municipal office carrying banners with slogans condemning the municipal administration for not implementing the sewerage project and levying taxes. Police stopped the protestors and arrested more than 200 members for protesting without permission and held them in a private hall.
