Coimbatore: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy todaypresided over the free wedding ceremony for 123 couples that took place in Perur, Chettipalayam area of Coimbatore as a way of honouring Late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
After that Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy addressed the gathering and stated that "Although there had been many wise leaders who lived and passed away, Puratchi Thalaivar MGR and Puratchi Thalaivi J Jayalalithaa live in people's hearts even after their demise. I am now witnessing their dreams for Tamilnadu now.
In 1981 Makkal Thilagam MGR conducted free weddings for couples in Tamilnadu. From then AIADMK is continuously conducting wedding ceremonies for poor women. Only AIADMK can do such weddings. Late Chief Minister MGR and Late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa toiled for creating a society without any differences between caste or religion. Todayin this stage we have couples from various religions. I see this as a social development."
"I wholeheartedly congratulate Minister SP Velumani for initiating such deeds which benefit the people. Parents who are not financially stable find it hard to get their daughter married. That is exactly why Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa introduced schemes which benefit the families of the bride. We are executing Amma's wishes for 10 years now.

"Working women were given vehicles to support their livelihood, the government issued a subsidiary of 25,000 rupees and around 98,741 Women have received their two wheelers. This was executed under a budget of 731 crores and 31 lakhs.
Poor people from the villages are given cattle for them to rear and many healthcare schemes like free medical checkup, Amma's free children welfare box, Arokiya service etc. Tamilnadu is the only state in India which has recorded the most number of deliveries at a government hospital.
Likewise last year only 6 students cleared NEET.To somehow help the poor students achieve their dream we have 7.5% reservation which has benefited 435 students who wanted to study medicine."
