Coimbatore: DMK members under Singanallur MLA Karthik, Peelamedu DMK Secretary Balasubramanian, 38th ward Secretary Madasamy and Poovendran took part in a protest todayagainst the corruption done by the Coimbatore District Corporation.
This protest happened at the Rotti Kadai ground near Peelamedu, Coimbatore.
Over 3000 members took part in this demonstration including 1000 women.
The demonstration was against the drinking water supply project given to the Suez company and various other government projects which are against the welfare of the people.
Protestors who took part in the protest carried placards and chanted slogans against Rural Development Minister SP Velumani for not finishing up the development projects undertaken in Coimbatore.
During the protest Karthik MLA stated that " Police Officials are denying protests which are done to revive the welfare of the people. I was not allowed to voice out the issues people faced at the assembly. I am ready to talk about this issue directly to Tamilnadu Rural Development and Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani, but is he ready?"
MLA Karthik also said that "Government is involved in corrupt activities under the name of developing a place through the Smart City Project. SP Velumani is only involved in projects which fill his pockets rather than projects which are people friendly. Due to this Coimbatore has become the epitome of poor administration. The corrupt actions of SP Velumani is getting beyond control." He said
Police officials arrested around 1500 people who took part in the protest including DMK members like Karthik MLA, Pongalur Palanisamy, Karur Murali, metal Mani, Manohar, Selvaraj, Kalpana Senthil, Nagaraj, Siva, Pasupathy, Murugan, Deepa, Ilango, Mary rani and many others.
