Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Employees Union women members protest demanding clearing of old pensions. They have also been involved in road roko insisting on various demands, including the payment of 21 months' arrears and the cancellation of the new pension. The promotion, which was to be granted in 10 years, was granted after 28 years. Officials and supervisors have blamed that the late promotion led them to be sent home empty-handed without any benefit or pension benefits.

They said the current special pension of Rs. 2000 was a way of glorifying the work of women who had worked under the Social Welfare Department for more than 33 years. They demanded that the special pension be converted into a formal pension calculated and paid from the day of retirement. They also demanded that those who have been promoted as officers and supervisors after April 2003 should be given 50 per cent of the period of service as per the government order and be given appropriate pension benefits.
