Central Revenue Intelligence Bureau officials investigated 5 people who arrived at Coimbatore International Airport in an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah on 1st February.

During the investigation, officials found 6,318 gram of paste shaped gold hidden in their intestines.
Officials revealed that they had smuggled 24 carat gold which weighed around 5747 grams worth over ₹2.85 crores.
During investigation it was revealed that the smugglers swallowed 28 capsules. Each of these capsules is said to have contained 324 grams of gold powder.
Authorities have arrested these smugglers who were from Sivagangai, Trichy, Chennai and Ramanathapuram districts.
Officials say that this is the first case where gold was powdered for smuggling and swallowed as capsules.
