Coimbatore: Anamalai Masani Amman Temple Gundam Festival near Pollachi inaugurated with flag hoisting on an 80 feet flagpole. The famous Anaimalai Masaniyamman Temple Festival in Pollachi starts annually on the Thai Amavasai. This year the public were doubtful if the Gundam festival would be conducted due to coronavirus. The temple administration petitioned the district collector and obtained permission to hold the festival. Following this, on the 9th, an 80 feet bamboo flagpole was brought from the Sarkarpathy forest and was prepared for pujas.
The festival started this morningwith the erection of an 80 feet high flagpole in front of the Anaimalai Masaniyamman Temple tower. The main event of the festival is Mayana Pooja is to be held on the night of the 24th and the event of the devotees stepping on the fire (gundam) following fasting will be held on the 27th. The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by a large number of devotees.
