Most of the motor pump sets are exported from Coimbatore not only to Tamil Nadu but also to the neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and the North. Recently, the continuous rise in prices of raw materials and the shortage of manpower have halved its production. Copper steel rod, the main capital of the motor pump set industry, stamping of magnetic wave plates, including plastic, has now risen by 20 per cent, leaving small and marginal pumpset manufacturers unable to run the business.
At present, small and micro entrepreneurs claim that production is affected by 30 per cent per day due to rising orders, and rising raw material prices and shortage of manpower. They also demanded that the central government take action to control the prices of raw materials.
