Coimbatore: An 80 feet high festival flagpole brought for Anaimalai Masaniyamman Temple Gundam Festival. Anaimalai Masaniamman Temple is one of the most famous temples in Coimbatore district. Devotees, locals and people from other districts visit the Masaniamman Temple to pray.
Devotees throng on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and auspicious days. Every year the Gundam Festival begins with the flag hoisting on the Thai Amavasai and is critically acclaimed. This year’s Gundam Festival kicks off tomorrow with flag hoisting.
For this, the devotees went to cut down the 80 feet high bamboo flagpole from the Sarkarpathy forest yesterday.

The bamboo flagpole was cut down and special pujas were performed at the Vanadevathai temple in the Sarkarpathy area.

The devotees carried the flagpole on their shoulders for several kilometers, bathed in the Upparu near the Masaniyamman temple, smeared sandalwood and flower garlands and performed special poojas at the temple premises.
The flagpole will be taken through the main streets on the morning of the 11th and will be erected in front of the temple tower. Chandalingakumar, former mayor of Anaimalai and chairman of the Masaniamman Charitable Trust, Manoharan, the temple chief and Arulali Arun were among those who carried the flagpole.
Following the flag hoisting, Mayana Puja will be held on Wednesday the 24th at midnight and Shakti Kumbastapanam will be held on the 25th. Gundam preparation will be held on the night of the 26th and Gundam festival will be held on the 27th at 8.30 am. The unfurling of the flag on the 28th and the anointing puja on the 1st of March will be done to conclude the Gundam festival. Arrangements for the festival are being made by the temple administration, temple officials and the festival committee.
