Coimbatore: Coimbatore Joint Action Committee announces one-day symbolic strike to control steel and cement price hikes on the 12th.

A press conference was held at the Coimbatore Kerala Club on behalf of the Coimbatore Joint Action Committee. Executives said the industry has been hit hard by coronavirus infections and lockdowns. The industry is currently recovering from that situation. Meanwhile, due to the rapidly rising steel and cement prices, the construction industry is facing huge problems.
The construction industry is the second largest economy in the country. This sector is the one that creates various job opportunities for the youth. The Central and State Governments are providing various basic infrastructure facilities including housing to all. The unprecedented rise in steel and cement prices has made it impossible to implement these plans.
No action has been taken after appealing to the Central and State Governments on various occasions regarding the impact on the construction industry. Therefore, they have announced a one-day symbolic strike on the 12th across the country on behalf of this joint action group demanding to control the price of steel and cement. In Coimbatore alone, 10,000 construction and contractors and 50,000 construction workers are participating in the strike. This one-day symbolic strike will cost the state hundreds of millions of rupees in revenue. Also on that day a procession will be held in Coimbatore on behalf of the Joint Action Committee.
The event was attended by executives from 12 organizations including Joint Action Committee Chairman Abhishek, Vice Chairman Ramji, Secretary Narayanan and Builders Association of India Vice Chairman Chinnaswamy.
