There are more than 5,000 streets in 100 wards in Coimbatore. In many parts of the corporation, building work is always in progress, such as renovating old buildings and constructing new ones. In the meantime, building waste is generated when old buildings are demolished and new buildings are built there, and when old buildings are renovated. Steps are being taken to remove building waste on behalf of the corporation.
A senior official of the corporation said, “Unused quarries have been found in the district where building waste is dumped after being collected in areas under the Coimbatore Corporation. Building waste collected in the city is being dumped in 2 quarries in Madukkarai and Sulur area. Only building waste is dumped in these pits. Up to 2 tonnes of building waste is collected daily in 5 vehicles across the city."
