Increase monthly welfare fund to Rs 5000 - physically challenged people and families protest in Coimbatore

Tamilnadu government provides a monthly welfare fund of rupees 1500 to the physically challenged people in the state.

Coimbatore: People with disabilities are highly affected due to the sudden upsurge in the cost of living in Tamilnadu. Tamilnadu government provides a monthly welfare fund of rupees 1500 to every physically challenged person in the state. With the inflation in prices of all commodities, it is difficult to manage daily life with the minimal fund that the government funds.

Similarly it is difficult to survive without getting proper job opportunities.

As a form of voicing out their issues, over hundreds of physically challenged people along with their family members took part in a siege protest at the Pollachi Sub Collector’s office requesting the officials to increase the monthly welfare fund given to disable people to 5000 rupees. They also protested requesting 4% reservation for disabled people in education and job opportunities.

Family members along with the physically challenged people said that the protest will continue till the government comes up with a solution for them.
