Coimbatore: Works affected in tea estate in Valparai due to encampment of elephants. Karumalai Tea Estate is located next to Valparai in Coimbatore district. More than a thousand workers are employed here.
Early this morning, 5 wild elephants with their calfs are camping in a tea estate in the area. Tea plantation guards tried to drive the wild elephant into the forest, but the wild elephants continued to camp there.
Due to this, weeding and fertilizing works in the area have been affected. Workers have been sent to alternative work. The public fears that wild elephants may come into the residential area at night as they have camped in the area. The forest department has been informed and they are monitoring wild elephants.
