Recommendation to bring GST on petrol and diesel within the limits: Coimbatore Commercial Tax Officer


Coimbatore: Coimbatore Commercial Tax Officer recommends to bring GST on petrol and dieselwithin the limits. A consultation meeting on GST was held at the Commerce Department office in Coimbatore yesterday evening. During the meeting GST for petrol and diesel were recommended to bring within the range. A meeting with chartered accountants, business representatives and tax advisers on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act was held at the Coimbatore Commercial Tax Office yesterday.

GST plays an important role in reducing tax evasion. The marketing of local goods and domestic production is increasing through the imposition of GST tax on imports. The task of administering the tax system has also been simplified. Comments received at such consultation meetings are forwarded to the Central Government and a recommendation is made for a change in the tax.

At the meeting, petrol and diesel were urged to refrained from GST. It has been suggested that it should be brought within limits. Comments on the ITC, credit, and permission to be taken by the States were brought to the attention of the Government and the GST by the Council. Similarly, comments including revocation of canceled registration certificate will be taken to the Government. The meeting was attended by Associate Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners.
