Truck owners strongly oppose the new central law on trucks in favor of corporates Risk of price of commodity rise
Coimbatore: Truck owners have strongly opposed the new central law on trucks in favor of corporates which has led to risk of price of commodities to rise.
The 2021 budget was tabled on behalf of the central government. This budget introduces new rules of banning trucks that are over 15 years old. Truck owners across the country have been hit hard by this law. This law has resulted in many middle income truck owners losing their livelihoods. It has led to a situation where workers from various walks of life dependent on the trucking industry are affected.

Rents for freight vehicles are at risk of being tripled as new lorries can cost up to Rs 30 lakh. Thus the prices of essential commodities used by the public are likely to rise many times over. Truck owners have therefore demanded that the central government relax this new law. Truck owners say that this law of the Central Government is meant to encourage big employers like corporates and there are about two lakh lorries operating across Tamil Nadu and there are about five lakh people who depend on the industry. They said that most truck owners will be heavily in debt if this law is passed and they are doing this business in the midst of various difficulties such as children's study, monthly installments and so on.
They said, "The impact is high due to the already rising diesel price, which has caused many problems such as customs fees and insurance and the purchase of new trucks will increase the debt burden by monthly installments of 50,000 to 70,000 rupees. And this will create an environment where truck rentals will have to be tripled. As a result, the prices of essential commodities, including agricultural products, will rise many times over and ordinary people will be affected. This law would lead to the suicide of truck owners who have relied on the industry for so many years."
They have therefore demanded that the government withdraw this notice.
