A top official from National Textile Corporation's (NTC) head office from Delhi is visiting Coimbatore tomorrowand is expected to conduct a special interaction with the office bearers of various trade unions and officials.
Coimbatore: National Textile Corporation Limited, (NTC) is a schedule “A” public sector company under the ambit of the Ministry of Textile is engaged in the production of yarn and fabric through its 23 mills in operation.
Out of the total, 7 mills are functioning in Tamil nadu. Among them 5 mills are located at Coimbatore namely, Murugan Mills, Coimbatore Spinning and Weaving Mills, Pankaja Mills, Cambodia Mills, Sri Ranga Vilas Mills. The other 2 mills are namely Kaleshwarar Mills at Kalayarkovil (Sivagangai district) and Pioneer spinners (Unit 1,2) at Paramakudi (Ramanathapuram district).
There are more than 4,000 employees who are currently working in all the 7 mills functioning in Tamil nadu which includes permanent employees, daily wage category labourers etc.
Due to the 'Covid 19' virus outbreak, all the spinning mills including both fully private and NTC mills were stopped. After the government gave relaxations for the industry sector to function, all the spinning mills which are fully private party owned started to function. Whereas 7 NTC mills in Tamilnadu remained closed and recently the 3 mills in Tamilnadu were given approval to reopen but only 2 mills have been restarted and are fully functioning.
Meanwhile all the workers in the mills which are closed are provided with half a month salary every month. Trade unions continued to stress the head office to take steps ensuring that all mills have been restarted and are functioning.
In this situation the NTC head office has formed a special committee to study the present situation in all the NTC mills across the nation regarding the steps that are to be taken for running them.
Two Directors have been newly appointed namely Ashudosh Gupta, Director (HR) and Inderpaul Singh Sandu, Director (Finance). These two officials will be heading the special committee.
Sources stated that "All the NTC mills are capable of generating more profits. But lack of modernisation, infrastructure facilities etc continue to be the main reason for the mills not to function efficiently. Office bearers of various trade unions continue to stress the central textile ministry and the NTC head office to take the needy action. In this situation two directors have been newly appointed at the head office, one for the HR and one for the Finance department. A special committee has been formed with these two officials heading and this committee who will be visiting the states in which NTC mills are functioning. The officials will be conducting an inspection to interact with the trade unions who will then submit a report. Following that steps would be taken whichwould help all NTC mills across the nation to start functioning efficiently.
The Director (Human Resource)Ashudosh Gupta is visiting Coimbatore tomorrow. He will be interacting with office bearers of various trade unions across Tamilnadu at the Regional NTC office at Coimbatore. Meetings are to be held from morning till evening.
