Vigilance department officials today arrested a Sub Inspector and a Constable in Coimbatore for taking bribes

The police officials were later produced in the court and were locked up in prison.

Coimbatore: Murugan (30) was a painting labourer from Sulur.

Around two days ago when he was driving on the Bypass road, Murugan was stopped by Sulur Traffic Police Sub Inspector Marudhaiya Pandian (56) and Constable Shakthivel (27). During the questioning, police officials found Murugan drunk. Police officials then seized Murugan's bike and asked for a bribe of Rs12,000 to avoid a case.

Shocked by this, Murugan said to the police officials that he didn't have enough money. Later Police officials Marudhaiya Pandian and Shakthivel said to Murugan that his bike will be returned only after paying the bribe.

Post this Murugan filed a complaint with the vigilance officials and an investigation was conducted by Inspectors Arumugam, Vijayalakshmi, Sasi Leha. Chemically tainted currency of rupees 6,000 was given to Murugan who then gave it to Constable Shakthivel. The six vigilance officials then arrested SI Marudhaiya Pandian and Constable Shakthivel red handed.

The police officials were later produced in the court and were locked up in prison. This incident has created panic in the area.
