Audio of making a deal for bribe to provide electricity connection for home going viral on social media
Coimbatore: An audio of brokers asking for bribes to provide electricity connection has been circulating on social networking sites. A worker from a village near Ondipudur, Coimbatore, has approached an electrical license contractor to get a commercial electrical connection to his building. He registered the documents online and received a fee of Rs 4,500.
Later, an assistant electrical engineer from the area visited the building. But, after that no power connection was provided. Following this, the contractor was demanded Rs. 2,000 by the assistant electrical engineer to provide the electrical connection following which the payment was made. But power was still not provided after that. Following this, the worker insisted on meeting the assistant electrical engineer and providing the electrical connection. Then, the assistant electrical engineer asked to meet and talk to an intermediary. Following this, while talking to the intermediary, he said that the electricity connection would be provided only if the assistant electrical engineer was paid Rs. 20,000 and separate amounts to lineman and foreman.
The worker recorded the conversation on his cell phone and sent it to his friends and social media via WhatsApp. This audio recording is spreading fast and the audio has been brought to the attention of Electricity Board officials. The incident has caused great controversy and a senior official of the Electricity Board said that departmental action will be taken soon against the concerned officer and his office.
