Coimbatore: Forest officials arrested a gang of 6 people in Pollachi who were trying to sell a 40-year-old tiger skin.
Forest officials received a tip-off that a tiger skin is being sold in the Ashok Nagar area near the Puthur-Azhukku Samiyar Temple by a hunter under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Pollachi Forest Reserve. Following this, forest officials led by Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Pollachi Forest Division Deputy Director Arokiyaraj were on patrol.
At that time people who came that way suspiciously in the car were interrogated. Inspection revealed that a leopard skin was hidden in the car. Following this, Praveen from Anaimalai, Udayakumar and Ramesh Kumar from Sethumadai, Manikandan from Odayakulam area and Sabari and Shankar from the vehicle were brought to the Forest Department office for investigation.

Investigation revealed thatUdayakumar's father Mayilsami, who was arrested, was working at Janakiraman's house opposite the Pudur Mariamman temple 15 years ago when he came to know that he had stolen one of the oldest leopard skins he had at home. The investigation also revealed that he had now decided to sell the leopard skin and approached his son's friends and tried to sell the leopard skin for around Rs 3 crore.

Forest officials have arrested six people, including Mayilsamy, who were in hiding, and have filed a case against them under the Forest Conservation Act. The forest department then confiscated the tiger skin.
