Forest Authorities requested the public to inform the police department on sighting illegal sales of wildlife.
Coimbatore: Alexandrine Parakeet is an endangered species of birds in India.
Forest officials received a tip regarding the illegal sales of Alexandrine Parakeet near Pollachi Busstand. Then under the orders of Anamalai Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Arokiyaraj Xavier, Ranger Pugalenthi and other forest officials conducted a raid near Pollachi Busstand.
Forest officials there found Aneesh Mohan and Satheesh Kumar with 9 Alexandrine Parakeets for illegal sales. Authorities immediately brought them to the Pollachi Forest Office and seized the birds and fined them rupees 50,000 for the illegal sales of an endangered species. Forest officials then warned them about this illegal sales and sent them away.
Forest officials then made a statement to the public and requested the people not to buy animals, birds and other lives which are banned by the government.
Forest Authorities also said that these crimes are punishable under law and requested the public to inform the police department if they see such illegal sales of wildlife.
