Contract Sanitary workers of Coimbatore Corporation protest again demanding long-pending pleas

Sanitation department workers in Coimbatore participated in a protest in front of the South Tahsildar Office.


Coimbatore: Sanitation department workers in Coimbatore participated in a protest in front of the South Tahsildar Office.

K Rathinakumar, CITU District Rural Development and Municipal Administration Workers Union General Secretary headed this protest along with contract workers from the sanitation and drinking water supply board.

CITU district head C Padhmanaban and Secretary S Krishnamoorthy took part in this protest and addressed the gathering.

During the protest various requests were made by the protestors,Here is a list of the requests made by the sanitation workers:

Corporation Officials and District Administration Officials have refused to grant social security subsidiaries to the sanitation workers and drinking water supply workers in 3 Municipalities, 37 Town Panchayats and 237 Village Panchayats present in Coimbatore. This must be solved immediately.

Pension for retired permanent workers and officers who lost their lives during duty have been delayed. This must be settled without further delay.

Over 3000 contract workers who are working for more than 10 years are paid a salary of only 318 rupees per day and not the 614 rupees per day which was announced by the government. Promised wages must be settled to the employees.

Contract employees who are working for more than 10 years should be made permanent employees.

ESI and PF services should be given to workers who don't have them now.

Sanitation workers who worked during the Covid-19 pandemic should be awarded with a special 1 month salary.

These were the requests made by the protestors. Over 200 sanitation department workers took part in this protest.
