One killed in elephant attack in Narasipuram Coimbatore

Coimbatore: One killed in elephant attack in Narasipuram Coimbatore. One person was trampled to death by an elephant in the Boluvampatti Narasipuram section of the Siruvani road next to Coimbatore.

An unidentified 40-year-old man was found dead after being attacked by a wild elephant near a roadside stream on the way from Narasipuram to Damanampudur in the Poondi Mathi Beet area in the Boluvampatti Narasipuram division. The priest of the Vishwamitri temple in the area, who saw the body at around 7:30 this morning, informed the forest department. Forest officer Asif rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation.

During the first phase of the investigation, it was learned that the deceased was not a resident of the area and that he often visited the temple area, which is about a kilometer away from the spot. According to temple priest Ganesh, the deceased was identified as Karthik, 45, of LIC Colony, who was working as a painter. The priest also said that he would come here after drinking alcohol. Following information that a lone wild elephant was roaming in the village of Dhamanampudur at around 10.30 last night, the Alpha night patrol team immediately rushed to the spot and sent the wild elephant back to the Vettaikaran temple forest.

Forest officers said it is possible that the deceased Karthik could have been attacked by the elephant before being chased into the forest. An ambulance was called and the body was sent to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy.
