10-year delay in Thanneerpandhal Overbridge Work: DMK MLA N. Karthik announces protest

DMK MLA N. Karthik announces protest near Hopes College IT park to resume the Thaneerpandal overbridge work

Coimbatore: DMK MLA N. Karthik has demanded an answer from Minister SP Velumani on delaying 10 years to complete a overbridge (LC 6) in Hope College, Thaneerpandal area. They have announced protest on January 28th near Hopes College IT park to resume the Thaneerpandal overbridge (LC 6) work .

In a press release he said that the construction of the Hope College, Thanneerpanthal Railway overbridge was started in 2010 by the Government during the DMK regime at a cost of about 12 crore rupees by the Kalaignar Karunanidhi. But for about ten years, only 10 percent of the work was done as the work has been put on hold since then

In Avinashi Road the road from Hope College Signal to Saravanampatti via Vilankurichi is heavily congested as the railway gate on this road is closed more than 50 times a day. This caused great inconvenience to the public and motorists. As the public and consumer organizations demanded that a bridge be built near the railway gate, the DMK government took steps to build a flyover near the railway gate on Thanneerpanthal Road. Every day more than 50,000 people use this road on two-wheelers and four-wheelers. As the overbridge lies unfinished, the people of the area have to take a different route for about 2 km.

DMK MLA N. Karthik said, "There is heavy traffic congestion in Coimbatore as all the above works are unfinished. Due to the continuous traffic crisis, motorists become depressed and road accidents often occur and also school, college, office goers are unable to go on time. The highway sector is the responsibility of Chief Minister Palanisamy who is inactive in all the departments and has failed as his only motive is to be cordial with the BJP government. The highway department has turned a blind eye to the difficulties faced by the people. Even when the Chief Minister visited Coimbatore yesterday, he did not talk about the construction work. He has the responsibility to answer if an overbridge takes ten years to build."

He added saying, "Therefore, in the interest of the public, the Government of Tamil Nadu should take steps to commence all construction work on the Hope College Thaneerpandal Railway overbridge as soon as possible and on Thursday 28.01.2021 at 4.00 pm a huge protest is to be held on behalf of DMK in Coimbatore East District near Hope College IT Park to urge appropriate action."

During the protest, members of the District Responsibility Committee, Headquarters Administrators, Chief Executive Committee, General Committee Members, Divisional Officers, Committee members, District Organizers Deputy Organizers, Association Leaders, Activists are to be present and he also welcomed the general public from all walks of life to take part in the protest, including party volunteers, welfare officers and social activists.
