Girl children must be aware of 1098 helpline, emphasised at awareness session in Pollachi


Pollachi: As part of the National Girl Child Day observed on January 24 to sensitise on the rights of girl children and annihilate gender-basedinequalities,an awareness session was held ar Puravipalayam in Pollachi, on Tuesday. 

Adressing the children, Usha, a health nurse, said that girls should be aware of the helpline 1098 and download Kaavalan App in their mobile phones through which immediate assistance can be availed by those in distress..

The event was chaired by Child Welfare Project Officer, Meenakumari. The session emphasised on the physical and mental well being of girl children and how to embolden them to report sexual abuse and stay vigilant. 

The event also raised awareness about the need to know about Child Helpline 1098 and the Police App, named Kaavalan. Self-development, balanced diet health and need for empowerment were other topics discussed at the session. 

Painting, essay, and poetry competition were held and prizes were distributed to all participants. The event was attended by Anganwadi workers and girl children from various government schools.
