Collector hoists Indian tricolour and accepts guard of honour in much muted 72nd Republic Day celebrations

The customarily colourful and traditional cultural events like dances by school students and other such events were skipped this year due to the pandemic.



Coimbatore: The 72nd Republic Day celebrations are being held in Coimbatore. Coimbatore District Collector Rajamani hoisted the national flag and accepted the guard of honour parade. The customarily colourful and traditional cultural events like dances by school students and other such events were skipped this year due to the pandemic.

Lot of precautionary arrangements were made for the 72nd Republic Day celebrations at the Coimbatore VOC grounds. District Collector Rajamani was given a special welcome on behalf of the Police Department at exactly 8 am this morning. The national anthem was played by the band.



The parade marched around the grounds in a continuously decorated security vehicle and hoisted the national flag in honor of the police parade.



Then the Armed Police, NCC students and Homeguards marched in the presence of Collector. Later, the Chief Minister's Award was presented to 140 policemen who had excelled in the Coimbatore district on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu.



These guards marched and lined up on the ground.



The District Collector met and congratulated each of them and presented them with the Chief Minister's Award.

Mask was presented at the door to all government officials, including senior police officers. All participants were allowed only after sanitizer was applied and social distancing was maintained as the seats were also distanced from each other.



The event was attended by Coimbatore City Commissioner of Police Sumith Sharan, Coimbatore Deputy Commissioners Stalin, Mutharasu, Uma, Gunasekaran, and DIG Narendra Nair, District Superintendent of Police Arularasu, Prisons DIG Shanmugasundaram, Prisons Superintendent Senthamaraikannan and many others.
