SPB honoured with Padma Vibhushan posthumously; KS Chithra gets Padma Bhushan
Legendary playback Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam (SPB), who passed away last year due to coronavirus complications has been conferred 'Padma Vibhushan' second highest civil honour posthumously, on Monday.
He has been a recipient of Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011.
On September 25 2020, SPB passed away in Chennai after being hospitalised for more than a month following Covid complications, leaving million of his fans in grief.
Revered by his fans for his multi faceted talent as a playback singer, actor, composer,SPB has won six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and 25 Nandi Awards. And, held a Guinness World record for singing over 40,000 songs.
KS Chithra honoured with Padma Bhushan
Renowned playback singer KS Chithra won the Padma Bhushan award, the third highest civilian award in India, for her contribution to the field of art.
Sung over 25,000 songs in various Indian languages including Bengali, Oriya, Tulu and Urdu, Chithra began singing in films since 1979 as a child.
She was earlier honoured with the Padma Shri award in 2005 and won six National Awards and more than 35 state awards for Best Female Singer. She won the National award in 1986, for the songs ‘Padariyen Padippariyein Pallikoodam.." and ‘Naan Oru Sindhu" from the Tamil film Sindhu Bhairavi.
