Tirupur District Collector Vijayakarthikeyan warns of disconnection of electric line if water is stolen from Parambikulam, Aliyar irrigation canal
Tirupur:Tirupur District Collector Vijayakarthikeyan warns of disconnecting electricity lines in case people are found to bestealing water from Parambikulam, Aliyar irrigation canal.
Farmers have raised a complaint that when the water from the Thirumoorthy Dam is opened for the Parambikulam Aliyar irrigation project in Tirupur district, water is not available for irrigation due to theft of water from the Parambikulam main canal by pumping out water through motors.
In this regard, joint committees comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Police, Public Works Department (Water Resources) and Electricity Board have been set up to prevent water theft and make water available to farmers cultivating through the Parambikulam Aliyar Irrigation Project for the benefit of farmers.

The team will patrol and monitor other irregularities, including water theft from all irrigation sources in Tirupur district.

If water theft is detected that damages the banks of the canal, directly or indirectly, the instruments used will be seized and appropriate criminal action will be taken against those who steal water from the canal.
