Poultry waste collected across the district to be used as food for fishes in farms - Coimbatore Corporation

It is said that over 100 kg of poultry wastes are being collected everyday from the butcher shops within the corporation limits.


Coimbatore: Officials have taken the decision has been made to use the poultry wastes from the areas within Coimbatore Corporation as food for fishes in the fish farms. District officials say that this plan will be implemented soon across the district

There are over 5500 streets in the 100 wards of Coimbatore district. Wastes from these streets are collected in three categories Bio - degradable wastes, Non bio - degradable wastes and Recyclable wastes before being dumped at the government site in Vellalore.

To decrease the amount of waste being dumped in Vellalore, the Coimbatore City Corporation officials have decided to create composite pits in 69 venues across the city.

These composite pits are used to create microbial manure which can be used in agriculture. Over 25 composite pits have been set-up across the city with 4 composite pits in action.

Meanwhile Coimbatore Corporation Officials have decided to use the poultry wastes collected from butcher shops as food for the fishes in the fish farms. Officials say that this plan will be implemented soon.

According to a District Official "Over 100 kg of poultry wastes are being collected everyday from the butcher shops within the corporation limits. We have planned to reuse these poultry wastes by turning them into fish foods with the help of machines.

This way the dumping of poultry wastes will be reduced in the city. A research report is being done by the Coimbatore corporation officials post which the plan will be executed immediately." he said.
