Tirupur: Farmers from Vellakovil are continuing their hunger protest for the 4th day today. These farmers from the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) are in protest requesting adequate water supply for irrigation.
Meanwhile, Dharapuram Sub Collector conducted a meeting with the farmers yesterday night which ended in a failure.
After this the farmers are now continuing on with their hunger protest.
As a support to the farmers in Vellakovil, over 500 people and farmers gathered to go on a demonstration. Police officials were present at the venue for demonstration as the locals did not get permission from the authorities for the demonstration.
Additional Superintendent of Police Jayachandran arrived at the gathering and is trying to convince the peopleto dissolve the gathering. But since people have gathered to show their support to the farmers of Vellakovil, a tense situation continues in the area.
