Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar takes Covaxin; appeals to people to do their part
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar took Covaxin, theindigenous Covid-19 vaccine at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai on Friday.
After administered with Covaxin
manufactured by Bharat Biotech, the Minister said “I took the vaccine not as a Minister but as a Doctor. So far only 907 people in the state have opted for this vaccine. I am the 908th person in the state to receive the vaccine. I wanted to convey the message to all healthcare workers that the vaccine is safe."
He added that the State in addition to the 20,000 doses of Covaxin, 1.69 lakh more doses will arrive on Friday. The state has received more than 10.45 lakh doses of Covishield.
According to report, on Thursday, Tamil Nadu vaccinated 9,277 healthcare providers against the day’s target of 16,600 people at 166 sites. So far, 42,947 healthcare providers are inoculated.
On Thursday, 9,146 beneficiaries received Covishield vaccine – pushing the day’s target by nearly 11 percentage points to 57% compared to Wednesday. From the six session sites, 131 healthcare providers received Covaxin – a fall to 22% of the target from 25% reported, on Wednesday.
