The memorandum handed over by Tamilnadu chief minister to the Prime Minister of India has carried the request of starting new flight service between Coimbatore and Dubai. Industrial associations have whole-heartedly welcomed chief ministers effort.

Coimbatore International Airport serves the Aviation needs of not only Coimbatore but also entire kongu region which covers 7 districts. At present there are only three services in the International Sector namely to Sharjah, Colombo and Singapore.

The flight service to Dubai has been a long pending request for over a decade from Coimbatoreans and successive governments including the current BJP government have not been taking it up. This only requires the POC status to be allocated to Coimbatore.

Considering the Welfare of the passengers industrial associations continue to stress the central government and the Civil Aviation ministry to start new services between Coimbatore and Dubai for a very long time. Till now this request has not been fulfilled and due to this the passengers are forced to use some other airports to get the the direct connectivity to Dubai.

In this situation Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami when he met the Prime Minister few days before had submitted the memorandum, in which he has also stated the request to start a new flight service between Coimbatore and Dubai as soon as possible.

This initiative has been been welcomed by the industry associations. Kongu Global Forum (KGF) Director, D. Nanda Kumar said, "There are more international flight connectivities available from Dubai Airport. This is the reason why all the passengers are continuing to stress to start the new flight service between Coimbatore and Dubai. Few years before Ashok Gajapathi Raju when he was holding the Civil Aviation ministry post and during an interaction meeting in Coimbatore assured to start a new service between Coimbatore and Dubai.

But in spite after Central Civil Aviation Minister assurance, no action was taken. In this situation we came to know that The Chief minister of Tamilnadu in the memorandum which he submitted to the Prime Minister a few days before has also included the request of starting new flight service between Coimbatore and Dubai which is most needed by all the passengers.

In his request he has also stated that are new flights service during night between Salem and Chennai and also increase flight services from Salem airport. We wholeheartedly welcome Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapadi K Palaniswami initiative. This has given us a big hope that very soon Coimbatore - Dubai flight service will be introduced."
