Chennai: A week after Covid recovery, the health condition of State Food and Civil Supplies Minister R Kamaraj is reported to be critical. He is presently on life support including ECMO, according to doctors treating him at the private hospital in Chennai.
The Minister was discharged after a week’s treatment from a private hospital, returned with severe breathlessness, two days ago and is been admitted at the intensive care unit of MGM Hospital.
He is on life support including ECMO. His condition remains critical though his vital parameters had stabilised after he was put on life support, as the viral infection has severely affected his lung function.
On Tuesday morning, the Minister was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where he was put on a ventilator, after suffering severe breathlessness. And later shifted to MGM hospital for higher care.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday night visited the private hospital in Chennai and enquired about the ailing Minister's health, according to an official release.
He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar, Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan.
DMK President M K Stalin tweeted wishing him a speedy recovery and requested all frontline workers to be cautious of the pandemic situation, while discharging their duties.
Mr. Kamaraj had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. After his discharge a medical Bulletin from the MIOT Hospital said, the Minister was tested postive for Covid and admitted to the hospital on January 5 for observation.
"His CT scan is normal. He is asymptomatic. Comfortable on room air and not needing any supplemental oxygen. He will be discharged shortly," the bulletin said.
