The Nilgiris: Anand Vel, a police inspector at the Cherambadi Police Station in the Pandalur Taluk of The Nilgiris district is said to have been pressurizing lorry drivers for a bribe of around 20,000 rupees for every load of M Sand that is brought in from Kerala.

Lorry owners with no other options complained to the vigilance department regarding the bribe taken by Inspector Anand Vel.

Vigilance department officials who kept Inspector Anand Vel under surveillance gave Francis Elias, a lorry owner from Malappuram, Kerala a bundle of cash which was spiked with chemicals.

Inspector Anand Vel as expected stopped Francis Elias and asked him to pay a bribe amount for carrying the load of M Sand inside Tamilnadu. Francis convinced Anand Vel that he has only 10,000 rupees as bribe and to take only that.

As soon as Inspector Anand Vel received the cash from Francis Elias he was arrested by the Vigilance department officials under DSP Dhakshnamoorthy who were in hiding.
