Pongal gift distribution to the deceased persons card Ration shop officer suspended

Coimbatore: Pongal gift distribution to the deceased person's card: Ration shop officer suspended.

District Co-operative Registrar Palanisamy has suspended the ration shop vendor in connection with the distribution of Pongal gifts to the deceased's ration card in Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore. Narayanasamy (age 80) hails from Ramanathapuram PR Nagar, Coimbatore.

He died in the first week of last December due to health problems. Thus his son Rajasekaran went to the Dhanalakshmipuram ration shop where his father had bought goods and told the staff there that his father had died and asked not to give items, Pongal gifts to the ration card in his father’s name. He also said that he has to surrender the smart card used by his father.

Later a text message has been received to the cell phone number that the Pongal gift of Rs. 2,500 announced by the Tamil Nadu government and the Pongal gift package has been distributed to the smart card used by Narayanasamy. Rajasekaran was shocked to see this and lodged a complaint with the Tamil Nadu Supply Department online. The complaint was investigated by the Supply Department officials on the orders of the District Supply Officer Kumaresan. The inquiry confirmed that the Pongal gift was distributed to the ration card in the name of the deceased.

Supply department officials recommended to the district co-operative registrar to take action against the shopkeeper concerned and following this, Co-operative Joint Registrar Palanisamy ordered the suspension of the concerned ration shop sales officer Pushpalatha.

Joint Registrar Palanisamy said, "Pushpalatha, Dhanalakshmipuram ration shop sales officer, has been suspended following a complaint that the Pongal gift was given to a smart card in the name of the deceased. We are investigating whether there are any other irregularities in the shop."
