Public outrage alleging inaction by police against youth who took obscene photos and videos of women in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Public outraged due to alleged inaction of police against youth who allegedly took obscene photos and videos of women. Four youths have been accused of allegedly taking lewd photos and videos of women in the area near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore. The public immediately informed the police and was outraged and protested as the police allegedly took no action.

There are more than 250 Arundhathiyar families living in the Panapatti panchayat near Kinathukadavu. Due to the lack of toilets, women from the area have to go to the cemetery on the outskirts of the city to relieve themselves. When the women went there yesterday, 4 youth from that town were allegedly hiding in the area and took photos and videos on their mobile phones. The shocked women ran and told their relatives at home.

The enraged people lodged a complaint at the police station. The panchayat president and her husband who came to know about this asked them not to complain and said that nothing should be done until the issue can be resolved holding a panchayat in the area.

The youth who photographed the women are alleged to be close to the ruling party and are supporters of the panchayat leader. The youth who allegedly took photos of women were brought to the panchayat office and the Arundhathiyar people were also brought and the photos and videos were destroyed in their presence.

They had promised that this wouldn't happen again and threatened them to forget the issue and to take no action. It seems they promised them that this will not happen again and threatened them to leave.

Periyar Mani, a social activist from the area, told reporters, "The panchayat office has been converted into a Katta panchayat office. The panchayat leader and her husband along with police tried to save the AIADMK supporters and threatened the Arundhathiyar to forgo the issue. Top police officials should take appropriate action against the accused."
