5 DMK members arrested for making death threats to journalist
Coimbatore: 5 DMK members arrested for making death threats. The Pongal festival was held two days ago in Coimbatore at the Kurichi GK square near Sundarapuram on behalf of the area residents' association.
Five persons have been arrested following a case against 6 DMK members for making death threats on people who came to videograph. According to the police, a Pongal function was organized on behalf of the Residents' Association in the area last night at GK Square, next to Sundarapuram, Coimbatore. DMK organization secretary Bharathi, who was there, continued to attack the late former chief minister MGR and Jayalalithaa. So the AIADMK workers who came there besieged RS Bharathi's car and raised slogans which led to a dispute between the AIADMK and the DMK.
The event was recorded on a mobile phone by a reporter from a bi-monthly newspaper (Kurichi Times). Some DMK men snatched the mobile phone and smashed it. They continued to make death threats and attack. So the reporter who was afraid left and lodged a complaint with the Podanur police. In the complaint he said, "I am a journalist and while filming the event, I was threatenedby DMK's 94th Ward Officer Kalimuthu (54), Ravichandran (60) of Poongfa nagar, Manikandan (46) of Mariamman Kovil Road, Chandrasekhar (45), and Benjamin (43) and Muthali. They threatened and tried to attack me. Action should be taken against those who broke the cellphone."

Based on this complaint, the Podanur police registered a case against 6 persons and arrested 5 persons except Muthali. Several people gathered in front of the station yesterday morning, including the Coimbatore East District Coordinator Senathipathi and Kurichi North coordinator and they too lodged a complaint on their behalf following which everyone dispersed.
