5 subways to come alongside Avinashi Road bridge - work going ahead at a rapid pace

Coimbatore City is scheduled to have a new bridge at a length of 10.10 kms. The bridge is said to be the longest bridge in Tamilnadu.


Coimbatore: Tamilnadu government had initiated a bridge construction at Avinashi Road in Coimbatore with a budget of rupees ₹1,621.30 crores. This bridge on Avinashi Road is to be built at a distance of 10.10 kms which is considered to be the longest bridge in Tamilnadu.



Officials began the construction of this bridge in December from Goldwins to Uppilipalayam and is now under construction in full swing in the Peelamedu area.



The bridge connects main areas in Coimbatore like Avinashi Road, Coimbatore International Airport, multiple Schools, Colleges, Tidel parks and many other private companies.

This bridge will also connect districts like Tirupur, Salem and Erode and will be the major bridge in the city. District officials said that the bridge will be able to withstand 30 years of traffic.



When asked about this, A National Highway Department Official said that "This new bridge on Avinashi Road is expected to be 10.10 kms long"

He also said that "the Highway Department has planned for 4 entrances and exits at the bridge. The bridge is built with a double side road with a pedestrian sidewalk of 1.50 m. The bridge is also scheduled to have drainage at the side."

He further said that the bridge will have 5 subways and small bridges at 3 different locations. The official further added that on completion the bridge will be the longest in Tamilnadu and will be a new landmark for Coimbatore.
