Youth arrested for swindling Rs. 4 lakhs using fake signature from the bank

Coimbatore: Youth arrested for swindling Rs. 4 lakhs using fake signatures from the bank.

Police have arrested an accused who forged Rs 3.76 lakh in a bank account. Himanshu Kumar Mohapatra, 49, of Cuttack, Orissa, has an account with Canara Bank on DB Road, RS Puram. A woman has an account in the same bank and he forged the woman's signature and brought the cheque in the woman's name claiming to be a relative in the bank. He forged the woman's signature and withdrew 3.76 lakh rupees from the bank.

It is customary that the account holder must come along while withdrawing money from a bank. But in case of withdrawing money by cheque the account holder is not required. Hence he wrote his name on the cheques without an account pay and fraudulently withdrew money by forging the woman's signature as provided in the bank.

The woman was shocked to see a mini statement in her bank account and went to RS Puram police and filed a case a few days ago. During the interrogation, Himanshu Kumar, a youth from Odisha, was arrested and interrogated. The investigation revealed that he had taken money from the woman's bank account by cheque by forging her signature. Police arrested him and have registered a case against him under the sections of forgery and fraud, and cheating.
