Mill owner arrested for assaulting sub-inspector during vehicle inspection in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Coimbatore police have arrested and jailed a mill owner for allegedly assaulting a sub-inspector during a vehicle inspection.
According to the police, the vehicle was inspected at the junction of Cowley Brown Road and Punniyakodi Road in the RS Puram area yesterday. Sub-Inspector Mahendran, Special Sub-Inspector Anthuvan and Head constable Kandasamy were involved in the search. When a car came speeding by in that area, police immediately stopped the vehicle but the car overtook the police and stopped. Police conducted a search and the driver of the car was subsequently interrogated.
As he did not answer properly he was asked to show the car's documents. Angered by this driver got out of the car and said he was going for urgent work and questioned if he would miss out on documents after purchasing a car worth several lakhs.
As the argument grew he abused and attacked the SI. So SI Mahendran lodged a complaint at the RS Puram police station and on the basis of the complaint the RS Puram police filed a case and arrested Anpit Jain, a mill owner from RS Puram West Ponnurangam Road, Coimbatore, on charges of obstructing of government employees, death threats and assault and jailed him yesterday evening.
