Late. District Collector John Sullivan was involved in improvising the livelihood of the tribals in The Nilgiris
The Nilgiris: Since The Nilgiris was a hill surrounded place it remained hidden from the outer world for a long time. That is when Coimbatore District Collector John Sullivan discovered The Nilgiris around 200 years ago.
Soon when The Nilgiris was declared a district he built a bungalow near Kanneri area in Kotagiri and took incharge as the District Collector of The Nilgiris.
Then District Collector John Sullivan was involved in improvising the livelihood of the tribals in the area. Ooty which has now transformed, was because of its discovery by John Sullivan.

As a way of honouring him, his bungalow in Kotagiri was turned into a memorial. Every year respects are paid to his portrait at the John Sullivan memorial and this year Tahsildar Ranjith Singh paid his respects but honouring the state of John Sullivan with a garland.
Today, John Sullivan's 166 death anniversary was observed by the area public. Artifacts in John Sullivan's bungalow from the historic age of The Nilgiris were kept at the public.
Government officers and the general public took part in this event and laid their respects to the late John Sullivan.
