Liquor worth Rs 346 crore sold in Tamil Nadu for Pongal festival: Rs. 85.78 crore less than last year


Coimbatore: Liquor worth Rs 346 crore was sold in Tamil Nadu for Pongal festival. It is Rs. 85.78 crore less than last year. On the 13th and 14th in Coimbatore, Tasmac sold liquor worth Rs 60.76 crore.

During the Diwali, New Year and festive seasons, liquor sales are rampant at Tasmac stores. There was always a rush to buy alcohol on those days. Next to these festivals, sales are likely to be higher during the Pongal festival days. According to reports, bottles of liquor worth Rs 346 crore have been sold in Tasmac stores in Tamil Nadu since the 13th of this year for the Pongal festival.

Rs. 147 crore 75 lakh worth of liquor sold on Bhogi Day

In Tamil Nadu, Tasmac management is divided into 5 zones through which sales are calculated. Accordingly, on the 13th about sales worth Rs. 39 crore 8 lakhs in Chennai zone, Rs. 20 crore 23 lakhs in Trichy zone, Rs. 36 crore 72 lakhs in Salem zone, Rs. 28 crore 15 lakhs in Madurai zone and Rs. 24 crore 57 lakhs in Coimbatore zone was recorded. A total of Rs 147 crore 75 lakh worth of liquor has been sold on Bhogi day.

Rs. 346 crore and 5 lakh worth liquor sales on Pongal day

Similarly, on Pongal day on the 14th, sales of Rs. 45 crore 13 lakhs in Chennai zone, Rs. 41 crore 17 lakhs in Trichy zone, Rs. 37 crore 57 lakhs in Salem region, Rs. 30 crore 24 lakhs in Madurai zone and Rs. 35 crore 19 lakhs in Coimbatore zone was recorded and a total of Rs. 198 crore 30 lakhs worth liquor was sold in Tasmac stores on that day.Across Tamil Nadu a total of Rs. 346 crore 5 lakhs worth liqquor was sold on the 13th and 14th.

Downfall in sale when compared to last year

Comparing sales to last year it shows that sales this year has decreased. Last year sales on the first day of Pongal Bhogi was Rs 178 crore 44 lakh and Rs 253 crore 10 lakh on the day of Pongal which added up to Rs. 431 crore 83 lakh in total. This year the sales has gone down by Rs 85 crore 78 lakh.
