Raid in a gambling club in Coimbatore: 36 arrested and Rs. 56,000 confiscated
Coimbatore: In a raid at a hotel in Coimbatore, 36 were arrested and Rs. 56,000 was confiscated from those were gambling. The Singanallur police conducted a search after receiving a tip off that gambling was taking place at the Raintree Country Club in the Sarathi Nagar area of Singanallur, Coimbatore. Gambling was found to be taking place on the first floor.
Following this, 36 people involved in gambling were arrested and 56 thousand rupees were seized. Police have filed a caseagainst the club owners. Coimbatore Law and Order Deputy Commissioner of Police Stalin said, "The particular club has obtained permission for entertainment features. But gambling has taken place there. Investigation is underway. A lot of people have been involved in gambling since yesterday was a holiday. The club has the capacity to seat more than 50 people at a time. Drugs and alcohol have also been provided."
Tokens will be issued in appropriate colors upon paying a certain amount. All the money transactions are done using tokens that are engraved with the numbers 5, 10, 20 in pink colour. Police then confiscated packets of tickets. Surveillance cameras have been installed around the club and bouncers are always stationed at the club gates to monitor police movements. The club has been in operation for over 3 years. It is shocking that the police were unaware of this all this time.
