Fire department rescues six youth trapped in Bhavani river


Coimbatore: The fire department rescued 6 youth alive who were trapped in the Bhavani river near Mettupalayam.

Manoj Kumar 20, Kingsley 21, Madesh 21, Shyam Sunder 21, Kannan Babu 20, Jayaraj 21 from Sundarapuram in Coimbatore and are college friends. They came to Vilamaram near Nellithurai next to Mettupalayam by bike.

They were bathing in the Bhavani river. The Bhavani River suddenly overflowed as water was released to generate electricity at the Pillur Dam. The youths were trapped in the water and upon information the Mettupalayam firefighters went to the scene and tied ropes to the trees and rescued one by one alive. The youths then thanked the fire department for rescuing them tactfully.
