Cheran Maanagar or Clay Maanagar? Residents and Consumer welfare association blames City Corporation for delay in maintenance works

"A huge delay in finishing the drainage works and negligence in relaying the roads by the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has made Cheran Maanagar into 'Clay Maanagar' following the continuous rains" says, Consumer Welfare Activists.

Coimbatore: Cheran Maanagar residential area located on Vilankurichi Road is a government housing quarters built for the Transport Department Officials and Staffs. There are three types of blocks at the housing quarters namely A, B and C under which there are 568 houses built.

In the past 15 years, surrounding areas of Cheran Maanagar were developed phenomenally due to which there are thousands of houses now.

Despite the development works in the whole area, there is a huge delay in finishing the drainage works and negligence in relaying the damaged roads.

With continuous rains for the past few weeks, the situation for the roads went worse.

Most of the roads inside the residential area are seen with small groves, poth holes and clay settlements everywhere.

Due to this, people are facing huge discomfort during the travel by road. Considering the Welfare of the people, Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) has sent petitions to the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation to swing into action at the earliest.

Speaking on this issue, Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) President, N.R Ravishankar said, " The situation of the roads in and around Cheran Maanagar residential area are looking very bad. Continuous downpour in the past few weeks has made the whole Cheran Maanagar area into Clay Maanagar."

He further said that "We have sent petitions to the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, along with photos of the current condition and have stressed to take immediate action on this issue. But no action has been taken till now."

Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) President, N.R Ravishankar also said that "The reasons behind the bad conditions of the road are due to the huge delay in finishing the drainage works and negligence by the officials in relaying the damaged roads. Each and every day the situation is getting more and more worse and due to this, the people of the locality are heavily upset. This lined up negligence will surely reflect inthe upcoming election." He said.
