Abnormal price increase of raw materials has pushed Industrialists to run only for 8 hours despite good market conditions

For the first time in history, while the market condition is so good, Coimbatore industrialists have been made voluntarily to reduce the working time from 16 hours to 8 hours each day, due to the abnormal price increase of raw materials.

Coimbatore: For the first time in history, while the market condition is good, Coimbatore industrialists have been made to reduce the working time from 16 hours to 8 hours each day, due to the abnormal price increase of raw materials.

Industrial City Coimbatore is well known known for known for Textile, Automobile spare parts, Castings, Wet grinder, Motor pump sets, Engineering products and various other products which are sold across the nation and world wide wide.

More than 10 lakh people have been directly employed across various manufacturing industries which are functioning across Coimbatore.

Post the pandemic outbreak, the relaxation given by the central and state governments has given a bit of relief to the industrialists resume the manufacturing process as usual.

But in the recent days continuous price increase witnessed in the raw materials such as steel, aluminium, copper etcwhich are used in the manufacturing industries.

The price of Steel per tonne has crossed70,000 rupees is one such example. Inspite of this various industry associations continue to send a representations to the central government. But still no action has been taken.

Due to this, Industrialists are forced to to reduce the working time scheduled to their workers from 16 hours to 8 hours per day.

Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA), President , M. V. Ramesh Babu said, "Abnormal price increase of the raw materials continue to be a big headache to all the Industrialists. Especially 'MSME' sector has been severely affected. We have asked the permission to meet 4 central ministersi. We have also been assured to get an appointment either to meet central ministers in person or through virtual mode soon.

At present the market situation is very good, but still big industries have started to reduce their production which has ultimately started showing impact on the MSME industries which are survived by by getting job orders from big industries. If the raw material price issue is not solved soon, then themanufacturing industries across Coimbatore will be facing a big crisis which will ultimately reflect in the livelihood of lakhs of peoples who have got direct employment opportunity in this sector."

Coimbatore and Tirupur Districts Micro and Cottage Entrepreneurs Association (COTMA)President, C. Sivakumar said, "Continuing abnormal price increase of raw materials is hitting very hard on the micro Industries sector. At present the market situation is really very good which would help all the industries to function 16 hours every day.But at present present due to the the abnormal price increase of the raw materials, most of the industries are functioning only for 8 hours. if the central government government does not address the issue soon, then many Industries will be forced to to shutdown their units temporarily which would very badly affect lakhs of workers living. " He said.
