Apart from the number of doses that Tirupur, Erode and Nilgiris, Coimbatore alone would get 107 CCP, 40,600 doses, second highest in the state.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu received its first consignment of 5,56,500 Covishield and Covaxin vaccines from the Serum institute of virology and Bharat Bio-tech, on Tuesday.
The vaccines arrived at the Chennai airport from Pune at about 10.30 AM, with each box containing 1,200 vials. Ahead of distribution, the vaccines will be stored at the State Vaccine Store on the premises of the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS).
The state government has initiated plans to distribute the vaccines to the 307 locations in the state through specialised vehicles. In the first phase, the vaccines would be dispatched to 10 regional sites, from where it would again be re-distributed to other sites in the districts.
Work to dispatch the vaccines to the districts would begin later in the evening.
As many as 45 vehicles have been arranged to transport the vaccines to the designated Covid vaccination sites in districts. In its proposal, the government had listed out the number of doses that each districts would get.
Chennai Corporation, with 359 CCP and 11,800 doses would be getting the highest number of doses followed by Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli, Tanjavur, Madurai, Sivaganga, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Salem and Coimbatore.

State Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said that six lakh frontline workers have been identified and pre-registered for administration of the vaccine.
He added that comprehensive measures have been taken to administer the vaccine to the frontline warriors as per guidelines issued the central government. The vaccination programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister on January 16.
