AIADMK's achievement is to make a profit by selling drinking water which is source of life: DMK  condemns

Coimbatore: DMK's Environmental Wing condemned that AIADMK's achievement is to make a profit by selling drinking water which is source of life. DMK Secretary of State for the Environmental welfare Karthikeyan Sivasenapathy in a statement said, "We condemn the transfer of the drinking water supply rights of the Coimbatore city to a private company called Suez for 26 years. The Drinking Water and Drainage Board, has been providing drinking water for many years. It is still doing its job and the right to provide Siruvani water should not be privatized. Even if there were administrative flaws it must only have been rectified."

He said the same Suez company from France had acquired the right to supply drinking water to the city of Cochabamba in Bolivia in 1997. Then the attractive plan was implemented that water would be available 24 hours a day by just using the card. People saw the project in the general sense that everything would be better when it came to being private. But over time, people began to realize that that was a disaster for them as water will be available only for the amount paid. Suezshowed its real face by not giving even a drop of water if there is no money.

People who could not pay the money started using river water. Unable to tolerate this, the Suez company mobilized a private army there to build a river and stopped people from drawing water into the river. People who could not draw water from the river started using water from home well and bore well. They stopped it and charged for it too. People who were fed up started storing and using rainwater and outraged by this Suez also charged for using rainwater.

Outraged by this people started to protest and civil war broke out. The people all fought together and drove the company out of the country. The same Suez company that was chased away by the Bolivian people has today got the right to supply and maintain drinking water in Coimbatore for 26 years. DMK State Secretary accused that the anti-people AIADMK government decided this with no local government representatives.

He said, "On 25.06.2018 our party leader expressed his strong condemnation against the awarding of the contract. In the last few days, Coimbatore district council executives and allied parties have been protesting against the project. But all this aside, the anti-people AIADMK government has implemented this project. Minister SP Velumani and our Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palanisamy do not know administrative skills and their only aim was to loot money and they do not even know the drinking water needs of the people.

He also added that "TN government is no less than our Prime Minister Modi in affecting government institutions and public sector structures by privatising them. The AIADMK's regime of ten years is a complete disgrace as they even sold the drinking water which is the source of life to make money. So, we need to be vigilant. We must rescue our state which is in the hands of these people. We must teach a lesson to those who plunder using the drinking water of the people. The people of Coimbatore will be protected with appropriate action once the DMK regime is in place. The water supply of the people of Coimbatore will be restored."
