Emu poultry scam: 6 jailed for 3 years each.
Coimbatore: In the Emu poultry scam case 6 accused have been jailed for 3 years each. In 2014, a private Emu poultry farm was operating in Coimbatore near Coimbatore. The directors of this farm were Subramanian from Sukkuvarpet, Sivakumar and Sudheesh from Ponnaiyarajapuram, another Sivakumar from Chinnavedampatti, Francis from Thrissur, Kerala and Sivan from Palakkad. The public was promised to be paid double if they invested in the farm. 45 people from the surrounding areas deposited a total of Rs 60 lakh in the scheme and they were not paid as promised.
Sengaliyappan, a resident of Kuniyamuthur, had lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Metropolitan Economic Crimes Division in 2014. The police registered a case and arrested Director Subramanian, Sivakumar, Sudesh, another Sivakumar, Francis and Sivan. The case is being heard in a Coimbatore court. The trial was over and the verdict was announced yesterday. Judge Ravi sentenced the six accused to three years in prison each. A further six were fined Rs 18.90 lakh and it was ordered to pay Rs 18 lakh as compensation to the affected investors.
